The best way to tour the bay of islands was by boat so I went on a cruise on a 50ft Catemeran. Was a great day out and helped the 2 man crew rig the sails and tension them when the wind filled in.
We Anchored up for a barbecue lunch on the boat by some desterted little bay on one of the islands.
Had my lunch and went snorkelling by the rocks on the shoreline and saw all sorts of wonderful marine life.
Was just swimming back to the boat when there was a bit of comotion and shouting from the boat pointing at the approaching Bottlenose doolphins. I followed the lady skipper of the boat and we chased after them.
there were a pack of 3 and one of them had a small fish in its mouth so the other 2 were trying to snatch it. We could hear them communicating with each other under the water with there high pitched tones. It was amazing hearing them for real just like the sounds you hear on TV.
There were some occasions when I was less than a metre away from them but it was pretty scary being that close to them just because of the size of them especially when they were fighting for the food.
A great day out and a bargain for 30 quid
